Glow

One of life's mysteries is how celebrities get themselves looking so good for the Oscar's. We now all know, thanks to tabloids, that they are not always looking 100%. So, how do they do it? How do we do it?
One month before a big event, get your micro-dermabrasion or glycolic peels. They will remove the skin's outer layers and leave you glowing, but the month will allow your skin time to recover.

One week before: Get a gentler facial to cleanse and exfoliate your skin and neck. The week will allow any extractions and outbreaks time to heal.

Two days before: If you're wearing a revealing gown, get some sort of body treatment like a sugar rub or warm algae wrap. Then, follow this up with a body massage or warm stone massage. Be sure to drink lots of water as well to cleanse and hydrate your body.

One day before: Get your manicures and pedicures to ensure they don't chip for your big day.

Now, you'll glow like the stars. Spas will not only help make your skin and body look better but you'll feel better from the inside-out with stress-relieving treatments.

Microdermabrasion

The magic of microdermabrasion naturally and effectively gets read of the dead, outer layer of skin. It is a non- surgical cosmetic procedure that reduces fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and acne scars by using tiny crystals to polish the skin. A trained technician uses a tool and methodically moves it across the skin. The tool both polishes and vacuums the dead layer of skin cells. HAving this layer of skin removed allows the young-looking, smooth skin to shine. The procedure also encourages the production of collagen which makes to skin appear even tighter. Don't let dead, marked layers of skin be what people see when they look at you, let your natural beaty shine through crystal clear.

Having a massage is great. It relaxes you and makes you feel at ease. But don't ignore the very place where your stressful thoughts begin. Don't underestimate the power of a head and face massage. One treatment that people rave about is Shiradora. A warm oil drips slowly onto your forehead while the masseuse slowly massages the essential oils into the face and scalp. The oils leave your skin revived, moisturized, and repaired without leaving behind build-up while relieving stress for days to come.

Berry History

The acai berry was discovered in the vast reason of the Amazon. The Shuar tribes are one of these Amazonian tribes that live there. They have been using the acai berry for medicinal purposes for centuries.

The Shuar medicine men or women are called uwishin works with medicinal plants and knows all the secrets of the rainforests. They collect knowledge of plants to find cures through experiments. It is the job of the uwishin to research and find solutions to illness.

Through this, the acai berry was discovered to have natural antioxidant properties, as well as being a natural cholesterol controller. The tribes of the Amazon knew of these properties and found out that it helped build the immune system, fight infection, protect the heart, and control prostate enlargement. It was also found to be a great energy food.

The berries grow on palm that has a long thin trunk up to 25m high with a group of branches at the top. The berries hang from these branches in clusters. Traditionally they would be picked by hand by the tribe’s men who would climb the trees. Today though, they are massed produced as the berries only have a 24 hour life span.

Men and Spas

Men are visiting spas in growing numbers but just any spa isn't suitable for men. Finding a spa with not only the right decor but services is very important. Something classy, refined. Having a spa that caters to everyone is the best idea. You can still feel pampered in a green room. In fact, it promotes even greater serenity. A growing number of men are going to spas today. They either go with their wives or girlfriends, with their male partner, or on their own. Get this! Men now make up nearly a third of all spagoers, according to the International Spa Association. They're receiving services like manicures, facials, massages, pedicures, and body scrubs.

Men need to feel relaxed, refined, and detailed too. Spas have now learned how to create a gender-neutral atmosphere where both men and women feel comfortable. Today, spas have gone so mainstream that they aren't looked at as something strictly for women anymore.

Massage Considerations

The massage has many benefits to the body including relaxation of tight muscles, soothing of stress, pain relief, increased circulation, improved self esteem, and raised endorphin levels. However, with the presence of some health conditions, it is best not to schedule a massage. For example, if you have a fever, contagious or infectious disease, a cold, the flu, recent operations or acute injuries, or skin diseases it is best not to receive a massage. Sometimes a massage can heighten certain ailments or even pass it on to your massager. Massage can be very therapeutic for many medical conditions, however in the above cases and in some others, it is best to first get advice from your physician. A massager, will however give a massage but not go over any cuts, bruises, or varicose veins. Ask your doctor first if a massage will help or hinder your condition before setting up an appointment.

Urban/ Suburban Skin Care

So you live in an urban environment? New York and New Jersey do unfortunately have polluted air. I am constantly walking behind buses and as I smell the exhaust I know that what I am smelling is also seeping into my pores. The layer of smog (although not the worst in the world) in this city is not good for our delicate skin. It is proven that women in the city do age more quickly and even get adult acne from the pollution and dirt we encounter daily in our commute. We're not going to leave the city we love. So, what do we do?
Facials are a perfect solution to taking care of our urban/suburban skin. During a facial treatment, extractions are performed by manually removing pore blockages. By extracting these, the pores are cleared of excess oil, cell debris, and dirt. Then, by following up with a quality daily cleanser we can keep the pollutants out of our skin and prevent congested pores to preserve our healthy glow.

Spa Party Time!

If you want to plan a spa party ask your local spa what they suggest. The most popular treatment package for a party that is affordable and relaxing is a manicure, pedicure, and massage. Rates are usually based on the number of guests, the number of treatments, and how long the spa party runs. Having the girls together to chat and get dolled up is always fun. But make sure the spa you choose is ready to handle larger parties so no one receives a lesser value treatment. Get the best quality spa experience by doing your research. Also find out what the girls are interested in having done at the party. Get chatty over pedicures. Have fun!

The Benefits of Waxing

Removing unsightly body hair has been a practice for centuries. Even in Egypt, they created a sugary-waxy substance to remove hair. But why wax instead of shave? It is a semi-permanent solution that lasts 3-8 weeks. You don't have to worry about shaving or waxing again for over a month. Waxing removes hair from the root, so it takes a longer time for hair to grow again.
Therefore, it is more cost effective and less time consuming. Take less time in the shower by taking a few minutes every month or every two months to get a waxing. Also, no more painful cuts and no more scars. In contrast to other methods of hair removal like hair-removing creams and shaving, waxing does not cause cuts, pigmentation, or badly smelling skin. No harsh chemicals are present in wax, so, the skin is saved from their damaging effect. Also, get this! The hair that grows after waxing is finer and softer, not rough and hard as after shaving. And the really good thing is - waxing does not cause an ugly stubble as seen in just a day after shaving. Your summer will go much more smoothly by waxing. Imagine only having to perform hair removal two or three times during an entire summer!

Redefining "Beauty"

Spas today are redefining beauty. No one goes into a spa for just a manicure or pedicure anymore. "Beauty" doesn't just come from a new hair color or a chemical peel. Beauty involves the entire body from the inside- out. Spas are now integrating cosmetic treatments like facials and manicures into holistic approaches to well-being. Don't worry, you can still get that pedicure, but your spa visit will also include fitness, health, relaxation and even spirituality. Healthy food, detox, aroma therapy, warm stones, and skin care are just a few of the hundreds or even thousands of treatments out there. Spa-goers want more than a massage that feels good for 20 minutes. You get more for your dollar when you get advice on skin care and diet. Or, even products to recreate the spa experience at home; and techniques they can use on their own to relax and stay fit, from exercise to yoga to aromatherapy. There are even wellness treatments to help people lose weight. Spas are no longer a place for primping but a place to learn about your body and treat it well.

Grooming for Grooms

A trip to the spa is practically mandatory for a bride before she walks down the aisle. But what about the groom? More and more grooms are trading in strippers for manicures. Salons and spas are offering prenuptial primping for men such as massages, facials, waxing, and pedicures only with male theming. Mini-golf, darts, board games, and drinks. As opposed to bachelor parties, the boys at least look better coming out than going in -- and spa owners say it does wonders for the pre-vow jitters. But it's also likely that many go in with visions of pink nail polish dancing in their heads. But, just ask them how they feel about the deal after they've been treated to a massage, hot shave and facial, and such anxieties seem to have slipped away. A man will look good for his wedding day while still having some quality time with the guys with an abundance of stiff drinks, cigars and friendly verbal abuse.

Spa Decor: Less is More

When you enter a spa, you don't want to be bombarded with Zen. The right color paint and a few plants are all a spa really needs. The educated spa guest will appreciate the "less is more" approach. The average consumer/spa goer "favors more minimalist, neutral color palettes— nothing vivid or bright—according to the ISPA 2004 Consumer Trends Report. Soft, incandescent track lighting on minimally decorated walls and simple window treatments also are in." Having overpowering decor will draw attention away from the treatment and the overall spa. If a customer doesn't like something it will really distract them and even give them a bad memory of the experience. Also, amenities like fruit, drinks, teas, or lotions will enhance the decor. Just an overall appearance of comfort will greatly encourage the customer to return to the spa. But over-doing it is not the answer, keeping it simple and relaxing is the key.
